Ms. OKAMURA Tamiyo
Teacher at Shirakawa El. Sch. in Fujimi village
Japanese Educ. Dept., 1974
It was when I was a university student I began to see 'Studying' as fun. When I realised my chosen course was interesting I became stuck to my seat in class, took every note possible and read the reference books. However, that was the first and last time I could ever study like that. I was lucky to have had such an enjoyable experience.

On the other hand, however, I sometimes skipped a class and went out for pleasure. At the garden of Shikishima Park, I walked about Rose Park, rowed a boat and chatted at a cafe like a matured adult. I longed for the tiny room of the Japanese Literature Club in the clubhouse building too although it no longer exists there. I also gained lifelong friends at the University.

When the first generation of Aramaki Campus got together, mulberry buds were sprouting everywhere in the newly levelled ground. That was almost 30 years ago.

Mr. KOBAYASHI Akio
Teacher at Uehasu El. Sch. In Isesaki City
Science Educ. Dept., 1987
When I entered university, I was full of energy, eager to do everything. I was attracted to geology and, every summer vacation of my freshman year, I was away on study sessions and field trips out with Gunma prefecture.

I walked in mud, listened intensively to the top-notch information, chatted with seniors and friends and learned from them. Studying things that cannot be learned in the classroom environment, I began to feel like an academic.

Looking back on conversations with my supervisors I learned from their academic interests and way of life. I valued my time there and had an enjoyable time. I had not experienced anything like this since my adolescence.

Mr. SUZUKI Kazunari
Teacher at Seijo College of Alsace (Lycee Seijo d' Alsace)
Science Educ. Dept., 1993
I am now teaching in Alsace, France at a private junior high school and senior high school for Japanese children with less than 200 students in total. My teaching subjects here are Science, Physics and Geology.

The school is located in the countryside surrounded by Vine fields, floating clouds in the blue sky and nothing else, so I sometimes devise original classes using natural materials around us. I must know 'how to examine and research things', 'how to make a presentation', 'how to use a computer' etc. and I owe a lot to my university classes for enabling me to do these things on my own now.

In Gunma University, I could have discussions not only with my department or section teachers, but also with other teachers of every professional skill in a friendly atmosphere. I will always remember that the University was where I was given a great deal of stimulation to make up my own mind and use my willpower. Bon Courage et 'a bientot!

Ms. SATO Mayumi
Curator at Takasaki City Gallery
Art Educ. Dept., 1994
My university years were a big turning point in my life. I am now a curator, doing many kinds of artwork, internationally and also have my own radio program. But, when I was a high school student, I didn't even know the name of the curator qualification. My world was suddenly expanded at University. In this department, I had the advantage of getting involved in art and above all, I met friends from a variety of senses.

Friends with totally different senses of value, teachers and seniors with fine senses of beauty….it was very exciting. That 'exciting' sense I learned at university is still working as a weapon and guiding me even after five years since my graduation. I wonder what your weapon is going to be.

Ms. INOUE Junko
Doctor course student at Australian National University
English Educ. Dept., 1994
Hello everyone. It's been five years since I left Gunma University, where I studied for seven years. When I was a student, whilst participating in club activities or working part-time, I also studied at a leisurely pace to become an English teacher.

During my one-year study experience in the USA, I learned that finding out new things was very interesting. In the following master course, I spent two productive years. So many teachers, even some from other departments and faculties, gave me good advice on researching my own set theme.

After graduating from the master course, I worked at a junior high school in Gunma Prefecture for two years. I then retired and am now researching again at the doctor course of Australian National University, located in the Special Region of the capital city, by means of the scholar grantee. Everyone, please educate yourself at Gunma University to enable yourself to responsibly choose what you want to do.
